- daughter of Ida Mary Dayman; raised by Ida's parents Humphrey and Kezia as their daughter; Butt family thought she was result of rape by Indian when Ida was 15; Dayman family thought John Henry (Jack Westcott), her first cousin, was the father,and that her parents wouldn't allow them to marry because they were first cousins (see letter from Ruth Longman); however, facts seem to show that Tressie was born in 1899; it’s more likely that the latter story about her parentage is correct
- email from Doug Longman, in response to questions from Terry Lee, March 2012 -- “I think Johnny was born in Whitewood. It was in their history book. He was a little older than Tressie. Margaret, Bob and Jim were born South of Kennedy and Northof Moose Mountain park on the farm. Their town would have been Fletwood which no longer exists. The kids would have went to Fletwood school. The last time I visited Tressie she was living in a little house near Bob. It was a one bedroom house with an "L" shaped kitchen and dining room. She had just received electricity and her total appliances were 3 light bulbs, one in the bedroom and one in each section of the kitchen and dining room. Her home was heated by a wood burning kitchen stove.Bob had been their and filled the wood box. We played cards with her. The deck was worn so bad we could hardly read the numbers. When we got home, Brown bought a deck and mailed them to her.”
